The high availability function of the gateProtect firewall guarantees that, in the event of a partial or total failure of the firewall hardware, the performance of the gateProtect firewall will be fully restored within the shortest space of time (60 seconds) and without any manual intervention.
Technology
The technology which provides the high availability is called hot standby. The primary monitoring firewall has an identical secondary firewall placed alongside it which is continuously synchronised with the primary firewall. The firewalls monitor each other by means of a so-called heartbeat to ensure they are both operational. In the event of a fault in the hardware the primary firewall is deactivated and the secondary firewall takes over the functions of the primary firewall. |
